Bunker Bay ramp improves beach access
A new boardwalk will be unveiled at Bunker Bay today as the Disabled Surfing Association hosts its second Let's Go Surfing Day of the season.
City of Busselton Mayor Ian Stubbs and Disabled Surfing Association representative Ant Pursell will open the universal access ramp at 8.45am tomorrow with a ribbon and cake-cutting ceremony.
The $44,000 project between the City of Busselton, Coastwest and Pullman Bunker Bay Resort includes the reduction of the boardwalk slope, installing a ramp onto the beach and providing handrails.
Mayor Stubbs said the Disabled Surfing Association did a "fabulous job" and the council knew the ramp would be well used by the surfers and visitors to the region.
"This new ramp provides another location suitable for use of the beach wheelchairs, which the City of Busselton provides free for hire," he said.
Mr Pursell said Bunker Bay Beach provided the perfect environment for disabled surfing activities.
"The purpose-built ramp will make the disabled surfing series, which runs over summer, far more manageable for participants and volunteers," he said.
