‘Must be a mistake’: Couple shocked by $1 million Gold Lotto win

A Queensland couple holidaying in Cairns were shocked to discover they had won last night’s $1 million Gold Lotto draw.

The lucky couple, who are from Logan in South-East Queensland, held one of three division one winning entries in the Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 4112 on Monday, September 14 – each pocketing $1 million.

Speaking with officials from The Lott this morning over the phone, the excited winners were still struggling to come to terms with the million-dollar news.

“We checked the ticket on The Lott app last night,” said the winning man.

“We couldn’t believe it. We thought it must be a mistake,” he added.

The ecstatic man explained that nothing like this had ever happened to the pair before and that it felt like a dream.

“We called our kids to let them know and they thought we were joking, but I said: ‘I don’t think we are’,” laughed the man, who explained the duo had a restless night following the life-changing news.

Winners have ‘no idea what to do’ with winnings

When asked how they planned to enjoy their winnings, the delighted duo confessed they were still processing their millionaire status and wanted to use it wisely.

“Honestly, we have no idea what we will do,” the winning woman said. “We’d like to go and see a financial advisor before we make any big decisions.”

“We know we will use it for our retirement, but we want to make sure we are wise with it,” she added.

The winning numbers in the Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 4112 were 33, 15, 22, 24, 18 and 14, with supplementary numbers 31 and 16.

The pair purchased their winning System 7 QuickPick entry at SPAR in Holloways Beach.

The SPAR Holloways Beach operations manager Paul Drabble said he had only taken ownership 12 weeks ago, so the news was “amazing” for the team.

“It’s so exciting! We were blown away when we realised we’d made one of our customers a millionaire,” he said.

“Can you hear everyone in the background?” he asked officials from The Lott.

“That’s the team cheering! We are so happy and ready to celebrate.”

23 years later: Lotto syndicate wins $2.5 million

Ten South Australian locals are collectively cheering this week after scoring a $2.5 million lotto win.

The Lotto syndicate, from South Australian coastal town Whyalla, had been playing the same numbers for more than 23 years when they won the Saturday X Lotto draw.

The syndicate held one of four division one entries in Saturday X Lotto draw 4189, which was drawn on Saturday, September 11 – taking home $2,521,223.10.

The group of ten will be splitting the winnings, with each member receiving a share worth $252,122.31.

Shares into the winning syndicate were purchased at Westland Hotel Motel, where the owner Darren Beare said he “couldn’t be happier” for the customers who won.

“We started this Lotto syndicate about 23 years ago with a group of 10 of our regulars,” said Mr Beare.

“Each of the syndicate members picked a number and they formed the System 10 entry.”

Mr Beare said that over time, a few syndicate members have changed, however the 10 numbers, which won Saturday's draw, have remained the same.

The winning numbers from the Saturday X Lotto draw 4189 were 17, 34, 8, 10, 26 and 23, with supplementary numbers 36 and 41.
