Lotto syndicate wins $2.5 million after 23 years of playing

Ten South Australian locals have scored a $2.5 million lotto win, after more than 20 years of syndicate entries.

The group, from South Australian coastal town Whyalla, had been running for over 23 years before winning the Saturday X Lotto draw.

The syndicate held one of four division one entries in Saturday X Lotto draw 4189, which was drawn on Saturday.

The group’s entry also scored division two twice, division three 24 times, division four 90 times and division six 80 times, pushing their initial $2.5 million win to a total of $2,521,223.10.

The group of ten will be splitting the winnings, with each member receiving a share worth $252,122.31.

Shares into the winning syndicate were purchased at the Westland Hotel Motel at 100 McDouall Stuart Avenue in Whyalla Norrie.

The winning numbers from the Saturday X Lotto draw 4189 from September 11 2021 were 17, 34, 8, 10, 26 and 23, with supplementary numbers 36 and 41.

The other three division one winners, from Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, also pocketed $2.5 million.

In the 2020-2021 financial year, Australians took home more than 123.7 million prizes worth more than $3.62 billion from The Lott.

Group ‘finally’ wins after decades

The owner of the Westland Hotel Motel that sold a winning Lotto entry said he couldn't be happier that his customers have won.

“We started this Lotto syndicate about 23 years ago with a group of 10 of our regulars,” Darren Beare said.

“Each of the syndicate members picked a number and they formed the System 10 entry.”

Mr Beare said that over time, a few syndicate members have changed, however the 10 numbers, which won Saturday X Lotto Draw 4189, have remained the same.

“We are so excited to hear that those 10 numbers, picked over two decades ago, finally delivered a division one win!”

Speaking to The Lott, Mr Beare said that the group are currently celebrating.

“A few of the winners came in this morning and some are still here celebrating,” he said.

“They are all so excited! Can you hear them cheering now? It’s celebration time in here.”

Some winners ‘may not yet know’ about prize

A spokesperson from The Lott said that some syndicate members held unregistered entries, and may not yet be aware of the win.

“I can imagine these syndicate members aren’t struggling with any Monday blues after making their division one discovery,” Lott spokesperson Ally Ramsamy said.

“We will be reaching out to those syndicate members who registered their entries, but there are still some members who have unregistered entries and may not yet know they’re part of this winning syndicate.”

“If you purchased a share in a syndicate for the recent Saturday X Lotto draw, today’s the day to check it!” Ms Ramsamy said.

There are more chances to win with Tuesday’s Oz Lotto currently having $20 million on offer and Thursday’s Powerball having $8 million up for grabs.
