Melbourne street artists turn wrecked Camry into glistering public art
Proving that it can always find a unique way of doing things, Melbourne has presented us with the new gold standard for sorting out abandoned cars.
A Silver Toyota Camry has spent about two weeks with a tree lodged in its grill and keys lodged in its ignition in North Fitzroy.
But, with its owner (and a tow truck) nowhere to be seen, the area's ever-present street artists swung into action to do something about.
As the days rolled on, the grafitti inevitably built up on the abandoned sedan. Markers and tags were predictably deployed on every panel before a more dedicated artist/s took up the challenge.
The car is now brilliant gold from bumper to bumper, and has been unofficially declared North Fitzroy's latest public art installation.

In all likelihood, the fact that the public is now enjoying the lonely Camry will spur authorities on to remove it, but in the meantime Twitter and the area's locals are embracing their new attraction.
"So @VictoriaPolice if a stolen car is left with no attempt to clear for a week the Fitzroy North artists will do what they do. #goldfinger," wrote Twitter user KimAroundTown on Monday.

Thomas Kaine took the opportunity to let a local MP know there was at least some support for the Golden Toyota, something he couldn't say for some other projects in the area.

Others on social media have also been supportive of the effort to pretty up the wreck.
