Twin toddlers found in cages bolted to the wall 'like dogs'
Police searching a home for illegal firearms made the shocking discovery of two toddlers whom they say were kept in cages, bolted to a bedroom wall “like dogs”.
Authorities in Northern California arrested 25-year-old Ramon Zendejas and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Mercadies Williams on Friday after officers found the children in cages.
The twin boys are believed to be about 22 months old, KRCR TV news reported.
Modoc County Sheriff Tex Dowdy said officers went to the home in Tulelake to execute a search warrant for illegal firearms when they found the boys under two years old in makeshift cages.
Both children were found in two separate modified cribs, one stacked on top of the other. The cribs were “secured to the wall like dog crates,” a police statement read.
Officers also found three guns, ammunition and evidence of a butane honey oil lab, the sheriff added.
The boys were turned over to social services and Zendejas and Williams were arrested and charged with illegal firearms possession and child endangerment.
The parents are each being held on A$14,000 bail.
