A woman has been found dead in an alleyway in Melbourne’s CBD.
The body was discovered in Chinatown at the intersection of Little Bourke Street and alleyway Celestial Avenue just after 6.30am on Wednesday.
Investigations are ongoing at the scene and a stretch of Little Bourke Street has been cordoned off and closed to the public.
"A member of the public did call triple-0 and reported the incident,” Victoria Police Acting Superintendent Craig Peel told reporters.
Supt Peel said the cause of death remained unclear, and the woman's identity had not yet been confirmed or her next-of-kin notified.
Police at the scene have informed the ABC they believe the woman to be approximately 33.
The death is being treated as suspicious and homicide detectives are now on scene, Nine News reported.
The body was found by a passer-by on the street, Sunrise reported.
A garbage man told the show he spotted the woman slumped over.
The street is one of the CBD’s major thoroughfares, bustling with restaurants and shops.
