A bomb threat that sparked the evacuation of hundreds of shoppers and moviegoers from Morley Galleria yesterday was later found to be a hoax.

Loud alarms sounded throughout the busy shopping centre urging people to get out after emergency services were called there about 4.30pm.

Police and centre management searched the shopping centre but nothing suspicious was found.

The scene was declared safe about an hour later and staff and shoppers standing outside in the centre’s car parks were allowed back in.

Confused moviegoers turned to social media to try to determine the reason for the evacuation, with one tweeting: “anyone know why we were evacuated from the Galleria Morley? Was half way through Mad Max and now standing in the car park”.
