A young fly-in, fly-out worker who was attacked after he left a Leederville nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning has spoken about his horrific injuries.

Max Harris, 22, of Karrinyup, told Seven News he had left the Hip-E Club and was making his way to Newcastle Street to get some food when the unprovoked attack happened.

He said he was hit in the back of the head and knocked to the ground, and then attacked again as he lay injured with three fractures to his skull.

The assault knocked Mr Harris unconscious and he woke up in Royal Perth Hospital several hours later.

Doctors have told him he could be left with long-term damage.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Harris said he could not walk, was now deaf in one ear and had lost his sense of smell.

His father, Paul Harris, described the attack as “pretty horrific” and something he never thought would happen to his own son.

“The people who did this – they’re just gutless, spineless monsters,” he said.
