Incredible encounter with 'superpod' of dolphins

Amazing vision has emerged online of the moment 'thousands' of dolphins swam alongside a boat in the Pacific Ocean.

The vision uploaded to Facebook by Orlando Marin, shows a boat travelling among hundreds and hundreds of dolphins off the coast of Costa Rica.

The boatload of people can do little but scream in delight as the incredible creatures leap through the water at amazing speeds.

"What beauty we have in Costa Rica with whales in the bay many times a year,” Orlando Marin wrote when he posted the video to Facebook.

“Here I leave you a video to enjoy, thousands of dolphins."

While the sociable and highly intelligent creatures, often travel in groups known as pods, they can occasionally come together to form a ‘superpod’.

While such a ‘superpod’ can be the result of a plentiful food source or a pending threat, they can also occur for no apparent reason.

While coming across a 'superpod' is quite a rare occurrence, this is far from the first time that an incredibly close ocean encounter has gone viral.
