Kayaker forced to fend off 'super aggressive' shark with paddle

A fisherman was forced to use his paddle to fend off a "super aggressive" hammerhead shark after it started head butting his kayak.

The 33-year-old construction worker told NBC he was fishing near Santa Barbara when the 'super aggressive' shark began circling.

"It hit the back of my kayak twice and I turned around to see it," Mr McCracken said.

"I couldn't tell if he was biting (the kayak) or if he was head-butting it but soon as I saw it I just started going at him with the paddle."

The video shows Mr McCracken nudging the shark with his paddle as it swims past, returning a number of times to ram the side of the vessel.

Mr McCracken tried to row to land, but the shark followed quickly and very closely.

"[It] followed me all the way into about three feet of water," McCracken said.

"Even after I got out of my kayak and made it to the beach he was sitting right there…it was pretty creepy."
