Police hope to reunite two puppies with their rightful owner after they were believed to have been stolen and traded for drugs.

It is not known when the puppies, thought to be mastiff crosses, were taken but they are believed to be about six weeks old.

Mirrabooka detectives found the dogs during a raid on a property in Alexander Heights yesterday.

Three people were charged but none of the offences relate to the dogs, which were malnourished and had been deprived of human contact.

Det-Const Jarrad Collins said police believed the puppies had been stolen.

“We believe the puppies have been exchanged for drugs so we’ve seized them and we are hoping to locate the owners,” he said.

He said the dogs were initially timid but had since relished the attention that had been lavished upon them by vet staff.

Perth Vet Emergency Dr Jared Addison said the dogs were dehydrated, underweight and suffering from diarrhoea when they arrived in his care.

He said they were now drinking and eating well and were likely to make a full recovery.

“They are doing really well, they are very affectionate towards each other, curl up and cuddle each other throughout most of the night to keep each other company,” he said.
