A woman has been left devastated after someone snorted the ashes of her mother.

Jacqui Tierney, 51, threw a party for a group of friends and found out afterwards that one the guests had snorted her mother’s remains, cocaine style.

Ms Tierney’s mother, Hilda, died four years ago, and the Dundee resident kept her mother’s remains in an urn.

A friend broke the news to Ms Tierney and she told The Mirror that she was still in a state of shock.

"It is beyond belief that this happened in my own home," she said.

The unnamed guest apparently just took the ashes from the mantelpiece and started snorting them. A friend witnessed the incident and decided Ms Tierney needed to be told.

“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing,” Ms Tierney said of the moment she found out.

“My mum meant the world to me and, apart from anything else, how could someone do something so disrespectful?” she added.

The woman left the party before Ms Tierney could confront her.
