'Just terrifying': Shocking video of flying solar panels before crash

A South East Queensland driver has avoided a serious crash after solar panels came loose from a ute in front of them.

The driver was filmed travelling along the Gateway Motorway at Bracken Ridge in Brisbane’s north on Wednesday about 10.55am.

Dashcam video uploaded by Queensland Police shows two solar panels coming loose from a ute and smashing in front of the car.

“The motorist travelling behind the ute escaped serious injury,” police said.

Police have found the driver but are yet to issue them with a ticket or charge.

“Police continue to warn all road users that unsecured loads can easily contribute towards a crash, injury or worse by striking another vehicle, motorcycle, cyclist or pedestrian,” police said.

Viewers shocked by dashcam video

On Facebook, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads called the footage “just terrifying”.

“Please remember to secure your loads, and any loose objects when you're travelling — and avoid near misses like this on the Gateway Motorway this morning,” it wrote on Wednesday.

People were horrified by the video.

“Good thing the following vehicle wasn't a motorcyclist, could've been a whole lot worse,” one man wrote.

One woman called it her “worst nightmare”.

Driver's windscreen smashed by ping pong table

In December, a driver was filmed having their windscreen smashed by a flying ping pong table.

One man said people who don’t secure loads properly is one of his “pet hates”.

“Fortunately never been hit but have driven over the top of things that have just come off the back of some vehicle,” he wrote.
