Savvy Woolworths shopper reveals how to score a kilo of lamb for $8: 'Brilliant'
A savvy Woolworths shopper has revealed how she scored half a kilo of lamb for under $5.
With the average price of lamb at around $43 per kilo at Woolies, the shopper decided to get creative when choosing cuts for dinner.
Instead of spending $20 for six lamb cutlets, she opted for 562 grams of offcuts for $4.50 – a massive saving of $15.50.
"So, I went to buy three little lamb chops today as it’s only for me, they had a six pack for $20. Then I see the offcuts, well hello, who wouldn’t take this option?" wrote the shopper in a post to a popular Facebook group.
The excited shopper shared a photo of her bargain meat haul, which included nine pieces of lamb for less than the price of two cutlets.
'What an awesome score': Shoppers weigh in
Fellow shoppers were impressed by the woman's bargain-hunting skills, with hundreds of people claiming her score was "brilliant", "fantastic" and a "total bargain".
"What an awesome score. Our family loves lamb but it gets pricey for a family of five," wrote one shopper.
"Nice score. I picked up some the other day. Gonna turn it into a stew over the weekend. First time I've gotten them so meaty – in the past it's been more boney but turned those ones into lamb ragu for pasta,” commented a second.
A third wrote: "Wow, I never knew they are such good cuts... I'll have a look next time."
Others were annoyed that offcuts are only available in large trays.
"Brilliant score. It annoys me that they only make up large trays. There are plenty of single people that don't want to buy a huge tray and elderly people that can't afford the huge trays," they wrote.

What are lamb offcuts?
Two meat processing workers who have helped to pack Woolworths' lamb offcuts took to the comments to explain what cuts of lamb are included in the packs.
"I've worked packing these. They're just the end pieces of the lamb when they're slicing lamb chops, as well as full lamb chops and cutlet excess from completed orders," wrote one worker.
Another assured shoppers that the lamb offcuts are honestly "good pieces of meat" and urged people to buy them.
The person wrote: "I worked for Woolworths factory and the offcuts are honestly good pieces of meat and half the time the line is going too fast to grab the proper chops first so they always end up in the offcut packages."
Home cooks also shared some of their favourite ideas for using lamb offcuts in recipes, including hearty stews, soups, osso buco and slow-cooked lamb curry.
