Rare Woolworths Lion King Ooshie sells for $100,000 online
A Woolworths customer has found themselves nearly $100,000 richer after selling one of the supermarket’s “super rare” furry Simba collectables.
The limited edition item, which was found in Plympton Park, Adelaide, was advertised on eBay and sold for a whopping $99,900.00 on Monday.
The lister described the toy as “ultra ultra super super rare”, being one of just 100 of its kind released as part of the retail giant’s The Lion King Ooshie promotion.
The item first went up for auction on Thursday last week, with a starting bid of $10,000.
While many had taken to social media to ridicule the high starting point, a total of 108 people placed bids in hopes of calling it their own.
A Woolworths spokesperson previously told Yahoo News Australia while the promotion had enjoyed a “fantastic start”, the retailer did not condone the sale of Ooshies.
“The Lion King Ooshies are a Disney Collector’s item and we do not encourage resale of these items,” they said.
The spokesperson said the limited edition furry Simbas were numbered one to 100 which customers were “urged to keep a look out for”.
Shoppers heading to Woolworths to hunt down the limited edition Ooshie will be pleased to know they can get 17 of them for as little as $30.
On Wednesday last week it emerged one lucky shopper had landed on the rare golden trolley from Coles’ Little Shop 2 promotion before listing it for an eye-watering $5000 on eBay.
