Mum spots venomous snake slither past son playing with toys

A Queensland mum received a shock when, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a black object slither past her son who was playing with toys in the family's lounge room.

The young boy, estimated to be between three and four-years-old, didn't seem to notice when the snake snuck past him and travelled into his bedroom.

His mother however was not taking any chances - taking her child out of the room.

Fortunately she did because the uninvited playmate was a highly venomous red-bellied black snake.

"It would be pretty nerve-wracking seeing a venomous snake slither past in close proximity to your child," Stuart McKenzie from The Snake Catcher 24/7 - Sunshine Coast told Yahoo7.

The mother called snake catcher Stuart McKenzie who told her to isolate the snake by covering the gap under the door with a towel.

"That's the best thing to do. They can still squeeze back under the door," he explained.

When Mr McKenzie arrived he spotted the snake, believed to be around a metre long, after it had crept in and made itself comfortable near some soft toys.

"Right into the corner of the room behind a heap of big teddy bears and stuff," Mr McKenzie explained.

The snake catcher said the reptile darted out quickly and he later shared the catch on Facebook.

It is thought the snake slipped in through the garage of the Landsborough home last Tuesday morning.

"When the roller door is down there is still the gap on the side."

While the mother was in shock following the housecall from the venomous visitor, Mr McKenzie explained that as the boy didn't seem to notice the red-bellied black or try to play with it he was really in no danger.

"He wasn't even fazed. I just don't think he understood or even knew there was a snake there to be honest."

But the snake catcher advises people to call a professional for help if you notice an uninvited guest slip into your house .
