Powerball: Sydney man 'too busy' to realise he's won $4.6m

A Sydney man scored an impressive $4.6 million in Thursday's Powerball draw – but officials say he was too busy to realise he'd won, only finding out two days later.

The Balmain winner went nearly 48 hours before realising his multi-million dollar prize, he told The Lott on Monday morning after finally coming forward to claim his jackpot.

“I checked my account on Friday morning but didn’t look at my Powerball entry,” he exclaimed.

“I was actually in the process of purchasing a ticket into another draw! It was only on Saturday that I noticed the win."

The Sydney man was the only division one winner of Thursday's draw. The winning number's were 9, 8, 25, 7, 26, 2, 24 and the Powerball was 9.

He says he now plans on taking his family on an overseas holiday and buying his family a pet dog.

“Honestly, I’m at a loss as to what to do. I just need to let this sink in and process it over the coming days," he added.

Surprising item Aussie winners opt for

It comes after The Lott's Matt Hart, who is responsible for calling Division one winners, revealed to Yahoo earlier this month the surprising and lacklustre item on many wish lists once winning big.

"I'm always stunned how often Dyson vacuum cleaners come up. Because if you've won $20, $60 million, you could probably buy a few Dyson vacuum cleaners," he said.

"I think it shows that some of these things would have been within their reach, but they could never quite justify spending their cash on that."

Other uninspiring items on previous wish lists include a dishwasher and a new roof, Mr Hart said.
