Lottery winner sticks it to boss after winning $4.8 million: 'So shocked'

A Queensland woman who won Wednesday’s $4.8 million Set for Life lottery draw has vowed to never return to work, as she will retire immediately.

The lucky winner, from the northern coastal suburb of Sandgate in Brisbane, held the only division one winning entry in Set for Life draw 2407, drawn Wednesday March 9.

She takes home the division one prize of $4.8 million, which will be paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.

Speaking over the phone with an official from The Lott, the ecstatic winner said she was still in shock after making the life-changing discovery.

“I woke up this morning, and while I was getting ready for work, I checked my emails, and it said I’d won a big prize in Set for Life,” she explained.

“I thought I might have won $100,000 or something like that, so I scanned this ticket on The Lott app to check. I was so shocked! I didn’t know what to do,” she said.

The Queenslander immediately called her family, who initially thought she had won a small prize, but when she told them she had taken home the division one jackpot they started cheering.

'I'll probably retire from work very soon' vows Set for Life winner

“I was meant to go into work today, but this has completely disrupted my day. I might go into the city today and celebrate instead. There’s no way I can go to work anymore!” she said.

When asked how she planned to spend her days now she is a multi-millionaire, the winning woman confessed she planned to leave her job.

“I’ll probably retire from work very soon. I don’t enjoy my job, so I was considering quitting anyway, so now I can!”

She explained that she might get a part-time job or volunteer in her spare time, as she wants to focus on something she’s “passionate about now.”

The excited winner purchased her 4-game entry from newsXpress Sandgate, where team member Trudy Hogarth said the team was currently celebrating.

“It’s such a fantastic win for our local customer, especially with how tough it’s been for the past few years, and now with the floods.”
