Plumber adopts kitten he rescued from pipe

A plumber has adopted a kitten he found trapped in an underground pipe.

The little cat, nicknamed Midnight, became trapped in pipes below a supply company in British Columbia, Canada, last month, Global News Canada reports.

The plumber Dan Groess along with his daughter, Ariana, 7, tried to lure the kitty out but Midnight was having none of it.

He placed a camera down the pipe instead and Midnight clutched it in his claws while Ariana made meowing noises.

Mr Groess then pulled the feline to safety. He said the pair had an “instant bond” after the rescue and has adopted the cat.

“It’s just really nice to be able to help out and save a life and, in return, (Midnight) has given us a better life as well,” Mr Groess said.

He told CBC he believes the cat may have been trapped in the pipes for a number of days, but otherwise he was OK. It’s not known how Midnight got into the piping.

In June, a large Saint Bernard had to be rescued by the fire department after he got stuck on the outside ledge of a house.

Pictures posted to the department’s Facebook page show the dog perched precariously on the ledge – although the owner looks a little more nervous than the pooch.

“He’s just standing there looking like what’s the problem?? You going to come up here and pet me or what?” one observer wrote.

A pet alpaca named Magnum had to be rescued from a dam after he got stuck in the backyard of a home in Sydney’s northwest.

The rescue took more than an hour. A team of 10 used a lasso and slings to bring Magnum to safety.

Luckily, despite being muddied and wet, Magnum emerged in good spirits.
