Firefighters called to rescue Saint Bernard stuck on roof

You’ve heard the one about the fireman called to save the cat stuck up a tree, but what about the huge Saint Bernard stuck on the roof?

That’s exactly what happened for the crew of a fire department in the US, proving that working in fire and emergency services isn’t just about dousing flames with water.

We respond to all kinds of calls,” the Spring Lake Park Fire Department in Minnesota posted to their Facebook page, adding the hashtag #heretoserve.

A family’s giant Saint Bernard was trapped on the outside ledge of a house – requiring an all-in effort to bring the big dog safely back inside.

Pictures posted to the department’s Facebook page show the dog perched precariously on the ledge – although the owner looks a little more nervous than the pooch.

“He’s just standing there looking like what’s the problem?? You going to come up here and pet me or what?,” one observer wrote.

“Saint’s are so funny … the stuff they do, all you can do is shake your head and laugh.”

Asked how they managed to coax the dog back inside, the Spring Lake Park Fire Department said on Facebook: “It was a coordinated effort! FF [fire fighter] on the roof lifted his front legs to the window sill, fire crews in the house lifted and pulled him in safe and sound.”

Oh mercy I would have like to seen him try to carry that thing down the ladder, that should have been interesting,” one Facebook user wrote.

While the exact reason why the dog ended up on the ledge remains unclear, a few Facebook users had their own theories.

I bet he was either running from getting a bath and jumped out the window, or he saw a bird out there and decided to be friends,” one person wrote.
