Beloved pet alpaca freed after getting stuck in the mud

Rescue crews were called to a backyard in Sydney’s northwest after a pet alpaca became stuck in a dam.

Londonderry resident Brock Cauchi said he was woken up on Sunday morning by his dad telling him their pet alpaca, named Magnum, was stuck in a dam.

Fire and Rescue NSW’s Bill Speck said fire fighters used a technical rescue vehicle “designed for heavy and awkward rescues that you don’t get every day”.

The rescue took more than an hour. A team of ten used a lasso and slings to bring Magnum to safety.

Luckily, despite being muddied and wet, Magnum emerged in good spirits.

“He was really stressed at the time but now he’s out and running around,” Brock said.

“We are keeping an eye on him so he seems pretty good.”
