The pizza created to prevent cancer

Italian researchers have created a pizza which they claim can help prevent cancer.

The National Institute of Tumors Fondazione Pascale di Napoli has teamed with owners of Don Peppe Pizzerias to develop Pizza Pascalina, a pizza with ingredients they believe can prevent cancer and contribute to a longer life.

The dish has been been dubbed “the taste of long life”.

The creators say the pizza can be eaten twice a week due to its nutritional value.

It’s based on cancer guidelines from the World Cancer Research Fund, “the latest scientific evidence on diet and cancer prevention”.

Unlike most traditional pizzas, it has no cheese. It also has no meat.

Its ingredients include black olive bells, garlic and chilli, nuts, Corbaro or San Marzano tomatoes, and rapini broccoli. The pizza is on a wheat flour base with extra virgin olive oil.

Pizza Pascalina’s ingredients were chosen to prevent the growth of tumours and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The vegetables, along with the tomatoes, on the pizza all contain antioxidants used to fight cancer cells. They also promote “cell proliferation” and reduce “apoptosis” also known as cell death.

The wheat flour base is also rich in fibre.

It’s being made available to try at the Napoli Pizza Village festival in Naples this week until Sunday.
