A crime scene has been set up on Homebush Bay Drive, 200 metres north of Australia Avenue, where there will be a forensic examination, police said on Thursday.

It was removed by forensic police without being unwrapped and taken to a morgue where a post-mortem will be conducted as detectives work to establish the identity, a police spokeswoman told AAP.
