The incredible car park standoff lasting hours and watched by thousands

A woman has live-tweeted an intense standoff between two motorists over a “prime” car parking spot, which lasted almost two hours, causing an online debate over who was entitled to the space.

The observer, who nicknamed herself “Koreatown neighbour”, shared pictures and mobile phone video from her apartment window as the duel unfolded in suburban Los Angeles, on Tuesday.

She tweeted a picture of a black car midway into a reverse parallel park, boxed in from behind by a silver car. She continued to update an intrigued audience as the saga dragged on.

“Parking in Koreatown, Los Angeles. A thread: This car is blocking this other car from grabbing this prime spot,” @Mrhflrs wrote with the pic.

The woman said it was about 6.30pm and the cars had already been idling for 10 minutes by that point.

A further 10 minutes passed with both drivers blocking one side of the road in their refusal to back down and let the other take the coveted spot.

Footage showed other vehicles tooting their horns angrily as they slowed down to squeeze past the warring pair.

“This stand-off is creating drama outside of the duel. Passersby are forced to go head to head with oncoming traffic – very dangerous situation,” she tweeted at 6.48pm.

“We’re nearing halftime. Sun goes down in less than 30, also a parking spot had opened up across the street but seems like this is more about the principle.”

An hour into the stand-off came a “plot twist” with a space opening up in front of the prized space, allowing the black car to edge forward so both vehicles could park.

While the parked cars were vacant, the observer left a note on the window of each vehicle inviting the drivers to contact her to “tell your side of the story”.

The thread quickly went viral, catching the attention of tens of thousands who debated which car deserved the spot, including US model Chrissy Teigen, adopting either Team Black Car or Team Silver Car.

The incredible standoff comes days after two “arrogant” men been caught on a camera blocking a coveted parking spot in Melbourne’s CBD on a busy evening, preventing an infuriated motorist from parking his car.
