Infuriated driver confronts two men 'saving' Melbourne parking spot

Two “arrogant” men have been caught on a dashboard camera blocking a coveted parking spot in Melbourne’s CBD on a busy evening, preventing an infuriated motorist from parking his car.

A St Albans driver, identified only as Arik, said he was pulling up at a vacant Franklin Street car park on Sunday evening, which was “on hold” by two men who stood in his way and refused to move.

With his indicator on, Arik can be heard in the clip tooting the horn, but the pair did not budge.

The motorist then got out of his car and confronted the pair, telling them “You can’t be standing here and blocking people.”

The men tell him they are waiting for their friend who is looking for a car park and motioned for him to drive on.

“It doesn’t matter. It’s first come, first serve, you can’t just do that,” Arik tells them, refusing to stand down.

He shared the video to YouTube, writing: “Despite it is a street public car park, these men blocked me from parking my car by standing in the empty parking spot, where is their car?

“They must have stood there for ages blocking everyone else from using the car park. They thought by standing in the parking spot, the car park is reserved for them.”

The three-minute video ends with the driver still waiting for the pair to move, but the Herald Sun reported the men finally conceded and Arik was eventually allowed to park his car.

“If they had said they were waiting for an elderly or disabled person I would have moved on, but they were acting really arrogant,” Arik told the news outlet.

“It’s a very un-Australian thing to do.”

The confrontation comes after dashcam footage captured a separate carpark stand-off where a woman ran to “save” a spot for her family as another couple tried to park in the same spot.
