'Twisted and tasteless': Anger over Halloween display featuring Las Vegas victims' graves

A halloween display depicting the gravestones of the 58 victims of the Las Vegas shooting has been widely condemned as "insensitive" and "disrespectful."

The decorations stretched across the front garden of a home in northern Las Vegas and has sparked outrage on Facebook after an image of the display appeared online on Tuesday.

The image shows 58 headstones each with their own American flag and had been cordoned off with tape that read "CAUTION".

Three floodlights had also been installed to light up the display through the night while a large banner saying "#VEGASSTRONG" was pinned to a brick wall.

Social media users were quick to point out the display's inappropriate nature in a barrage of comments.

“I find this so disrespectful! What’s wrong with people in our world?” one Twitter user wrote.

“That's twisted and tasteless. Halloween is about fantasy, we don't need this daily morbid reminder of our city's anguish, now or ever," another tweet read.

Although some users pointed out the homeowner's had acted on good intentions.

“Pretty sure their heart was in the right place with the memorial, but to me, headstones are pretty ghoulish, especially with Halloween right around the corner," a Facebook user wrote.

Following the photo's widespread attention online, the decorations were taken down on Wednesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Via a representative, the homeowner revealed his close connection to the tragic events of October 1 and his reasoning behind the display.

"He has a client whose son passed away and he wanted to make a tribute," spokesperson Stephen Stubbs said.

The display comes just two weeks after Stephen Paddock opened fire on festival goers from his Mandalay Bay hotel room, killing 58 innocent victims and injuring 527.
