The whopping amount one of Australia's airports makes off parking fees a day

Parking fees at Melbourne Airport are under fire after it was revealed it was raking in almost $400,000 a day.

More than two million Victorians use the airport each year and it made just over $145,000 in parking fees in 2017 – up more than $10 million from 2016.

But Melbourne Airport Parking’s Lorie Argus said the airport had to look at “what’s fair and reasonable”.

“We do our best to make sure we offer value to the customer,” she said.

Ms Argus added after customer research and feedback the airport reduced parking prices by 20 per cent.

Melbourne Airport also said it had shaved dollars off the cost of short-term parking and added a new free 10-minute passenger pick-up zone to save drivers from driving around in circles.

But not everyone is happy.

One woman had to pay $121 for two days of parking.

“It cost more to park the car than one return ticket to Brisbane,” she said.

Another simply said: “It’s a rip off”.
