Two stores robbed in separate early-morning Melbourne ram raids

Thieves remain on the run after smashing through front glass doors and robbing two Melbourne businesses in the early hours of Wednesday morning in separate ram raids.

A silver Toyota Ute drove through a window of a boutique clothing store in South Yarra, near the corner of Chapel Street and Oxford Street about 4.30am.

It is believed two men stole some garments from the Arthur Galan store before fleeing the scene.

Police are searching for a silver dual-cab Toyota ute with a missing driver's side rear view mirror to assist with the investigation.

Half an hour later, about 5am, two offenders busted their way into a Subway restaurant in Melbourne’s west, stealing tills and a surveillance camera.

Store owner known only as Sabrina, told the Star Weekly newspaper the thieves made off with no cash as the registers stolen were emptied before closing on Tuesday night.

A large vehicle, like a truck, was believed to be used to break through the front doors.

Police were called to the Keilor take away restaurant at Keilor Park Drive and a crime scene was established.

“We’ll have to replace the entire front of the shop, replace the windows and front door, there’s also damage to the ceiling and the air conditioner.

“It will cost a few thousand dollars to fix.”

She told the local paper the store was a target of string of break-ins and attempted robberies recently.

“People breaking through the front window, four or five times, breaking through the back door, four or five times, it’s usually two or three people, teenagers.”

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
