'FED UP': Locals fume over carpark 'hoons'

Residents of a southern Sydney suburb are calling for changes in the community after being kept up at night due to hoons and drag races on the main road.

Sans Souci locals have reported an increase in 'anti-social' behaviour, including hooning, speeding, burnouts, drag racing, drug activities, rubbish dumping, fireworks, double parking and late-night gatherings with loud music along Riverside Drive, spurring locals to take action.

Furious about being kept up constantly they are asking for parking restrictions to be introduced along Riverside Drive in the suburb.

"With this petition, we are requesting parking bays are implemented with parking restrictions between 9pm to 5am together with lighting and CCTV additions to create a safer Sans Souci," the change.org petition reads.

Residents have voiced their support for the restrictions, urging the council to help put a stop to the "disrespectful" behaviour.

"I'm sick of hearing the noise constantly through the night," one woman commented on the change.org page.

"I'm also over the total disrespect of these people. They are purposefully enraging the population of Bayside. I will support anything that curbs this anti-social behaviour."

"This is truly unbelievable that nothing has been done by authorities to stop these super noisy annoying cars racing in Sans Souci almost every night for months now," another wrote, saying loud noises are stressing their family, waking them up several times a night.

"They were going till 2.30am a few days ago, they usually come around 11pm," they complained.

Trial proposed for the area

Heidi Douglas, a long-term campaigner for safe streets in the area who has now been elected to council, told Yahoo News Australia they want the restrictions to be trialled, saying they don't want it to negatively impact residents.

"We want to make sure that it doesn't negatively impact dog walkers who might be getting there early or kayakers who might be getting there early or anything like that," Ms Douglas explained.

"We're proposing a six to 12-month trial of the parking restrictions and in that time, the community is able to provide feedback if for some reason, those restrictions, you know, infringe on other people's use of the space."

Ms Douglas has also urged for St George Police to check in on "anti-social" issues.

The petition will be presented to the Bayside Council on Wednesday night.
