Single aerial photo reveals Sydney family's $50 million defiance

A family in Sydney's northwest have been praised for their refusal to sell their property as a housing development swallowed up the land around them.

Aerial images of the property in the Ponds area near Quakers Hill show a large green area with a house and a large shed in the middle, surrounded by expanding rows of newly built, near-identical homes.

The property is owned by the Zammit family who remain there despite reportedly being offered millions to give up the land.

50 houses could potentially be built on the property

Ray White Quakers Hill agent Taylor Bredin told Seven News as many as 50 houses could potentially be built on the land.

“The fact that most people sold out years and years ago, these guys have held on. All credit to them,” he said.

It's unknown if the family has any plans to sell anytime soon. However if they did relent, Mr Bredin estimates the land could potentially be sold for $50 million.

"When subdivided, a 300 square metre block would get a million dollars," he said.

The property sits by itself surrounded by a new development.

Diane Zammit, 50, told The Daily Mail the area has rapidly changed since they moved in, saying it used to be “farmland dotted with little red brick homes and cottages”.

“Every home was unique and there was so much space," she said. "But not anymore. It’s just not the same".

The brick home has views of the Blue Mountains and a 200m-long driveway leading to a triple garage, with a huge shed. The Ponds is around a 30-minute drive from Sydney’s CBD.

Sydney remains one of the most expensive cities in Australia to buy property, although experts are predicting property price growth will slow in 2022, but might not fall for a few more years.
