Sinead McNamara's family to hold 'loving farewell' for Aussie Instagram model

The family of late Instagram model, Sinead McNamara, will hold a ‘loving farewell’ in Port Macquarie over the weekend.

Jake McNamara, the model’s brother, posted on Facebook about the event which will be held in Port Macquarie at 10am on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Port Macquarie resident was found in a critical condition on August 30, tangled in ropes at the rear of the Mayan Queen IV.

The vessel was moored at the port of Argostoli in Kefalonia, Greece. Ms McNamara died as she was being airlifted to hospital.

The memorial service has an unusual dress code, which pays tribute to Ms McNamara’s bright personality.

“For those coming on Saturday the dress code is wear what Sinead would want you to wear,” Mr McNamara posted on Facebook on September 12.

“We all knew and loved her in different aspects of life so whether that’s bright and fun, road trip attire, formal, surfy, boat attire or whatever it is that brought you and her together that is what we would like you to wear.”

Mr McNamara also invited people to remember his sister by having a quiet moment near the ocean.

“At 1pm Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, 15th September 2018, please take a moment by the ocean nearest to you and join us while we do the same,” Mr McNamara posted on Facebook on September 10.

“Uniting as one across the world to remember and cherish special moments shared with Sinead.”

The Port Macquarie resident had been working for four months as a stewardess on the six-storey vessel owned by billionaire mining mogul Alberto Bailleres.

She had been working her last shift on the vessel when she was found unconscious.

The social media influencer was believed to have been planning to meet her family in Europe, however, they only flew to Greece following her death, The Daily Telegraph reported.

She had in fact been planning to return to Australia and had taken to Instagram to reveal her excitement over her imminent reunion with her family.

“It is less then a month till I get to see my family & friends in Aus. Excitement overload!!’ she wrote in an Instagram caption.

The family’s Greek lawyer, Haralambos Triandafylopoulos, revealed in a statement she was just two days away from returning home at the time of her death.
