Shocking video of teens in school uniform lighting fire
A group of teenagers have been caught on video lighting fires during Wednesday’s total fire ban in New South Wales.
A Blue Mountains resident busted the boys when she found a bonfire burning close to her backyard and decided to confront the group.
The teenagers – one still in his school uniform – are accused of lighting a blaze in extremely dry bushland near dozens of properties at Blaxland.
Footage shows the teenagers gathered at the base of a rock as one comments on a piece being “well done”.
The woman who recorded the schoolboys, Sue St Clair, confronted the alleged firebugs from her garden.
“I told them to put it out, they said, ‘we will’, but it just took over, and they ran off, half of them,” Ms St Clair said.
The others tried to put the fire out but the flames were too big. Firefighters and police arrived just in time to extinguish the blaze.
“What could’ve happened here? Anything,” Ms St Clair said.

“There’s only one way in and one way out of this estate. This could’ve all gone up, could’ve all been destroyed, you just don’t know.”
Three teenagers were arrested near the fire and taken to Springwood Police Station to be charged with arson.
During questioning, one of the boys broke down in tears and apologised.
The trio will face a children’s court next month, while police haven’t ruled out further arrests.
With fire crews already busy at nearby Bilpin, this after-school activity could have been catastrophic.
“It’s not funny, it’s not a joke – someone could lose their property, or even worse,” Rural Fire Service Deputy Commissioner Rob Rogers said.
