Heartbreaking photos show dumped dog 'reaching out' to be saved

A dog who was dumped and left to die has been photographed “literally reaching out” for someone to save his life.

The heartbreaking images show the nine-month-old pit bull pup named JJ looking “scared and lost” inside a kennel with his paw extended out towards the camera “begging to be freed”.

JJ is believed to be hearing and visually impaired and was taken to a small local shelter with only six kennels after being found on Dowdy Ferry Road in Dallas, Texas.

“That road is not a road that many make it off alive,” Dallas DogRRR wrote on their post on Facebook.

The spot is reportedly a notorious dumping ground for dogs with heavy traffic where many end up getting hit.

But despite being able to survive the roadway, his luck was running out when he was put on a euthanasia list at the shelter which does not open to the public.

“The shelter is full and he is at his deadline and we know what that means for a PITBULL who is DEAF and VISUALLY IMPAIRED with OTHER MEDICAL ISSUES,” the Facebook post from a little over a week ago reads.

Fortunately JJ attracted the attention of a woman named Marina Tarashevska, who told the Dodo, “When he pulled him out of the kennel, he looked lost and was running under our feet, and just laying really, really low … like he was expecting to be hit.”

When Ms Tarashevska was leaving the dog put out his paw through a gap in his cage and was “begging to be saved.”

“It’s the most heartbreaking thing to leave a dog who’s begging you like that,” Ms Tarashevska said.

Ms Tarashevska asked the owner of the local rescue group for JJ to be removed from the shelter. He has since been checked over at the vet and has now been put into a foster home.

He still becomes very anxious and obsessed with his crate, but is said to be improving every day.

“She [the foster mum] takes him on long walks. He loves his snacks. He loves just laying there and chewing on a Kong,” Patti Dawson, president of Dallas DogRRR told The Dodo.

The animal shelter says the pit bull needs his behaviour, hearing and vision evaluated, and he will be put up for adoption eventually.
