Snakes alive! Deadly baby snakes hatch from mound of eggs in Adelaide

More than a dozen venomous eastern brown snakes have been caught on video hatching from their eggs in Adelaide.

The snakes’ tiny heads can be seen poking out of the mound of eggs as they hatch, before their miniature bodies begin to slither to freedom.

The video shows about 14 baby reptiles hatching after 60 days in the egg.

The mother was reportedly caught two months ago in a garden bed of a home in the Adelaide Hills suburb of Bradbury, with a belly full of eggs.

“If it wasn’t relocated, that Bradbury property would have all these babies to contend with,” Snake Catchers Adelaide manager Ange Broadstock told Adelaide Now.

She said a cooler and wetter Adelaide spring caused a delayed mating season for the reptiles.

“We are expecting hatching to continue for another couple of months,” she said.

Ms Broadstock shared the clip to Facebook on Tuesday, calling the hatching “a healthy bunch”.

The video has already received more than 12,000 views.

The mother snake and her babies will be released into the wild.
