Adelaide 'fight club' page should be 'closed down'

An Adelaide Facebook page featuring violent videos and images of physical fights, many featuring children, has outraged bullying experts.

Called Adelaide Box Ons, the page contains disturbing images of children fighting at school and has attracted calls for its removal.

Several of the attacks appear unprovoked and relentless. Most of the videos are shot on mobile phones before being uploaded to the social network.

Many show multiple students watching or becoming involved in the violent confrontations.

Seven News understand that students from at least two northern suburbs schools are involved, and Craigmore High School principal Des Wauchope has confirmed at least one of the videos captured a fight that occurred on his school grounds on February 19.

Cyber bullying expert Barbara Spears from Uni SA’s education school said the videos showed cases which could constitute criminal attacks.

“What we’re seeing here is a fight club approach which is not something any school would condone” Dr Spears said.

“Certainly some of the images I’ve seen, there is assault happening.

“I would advocate that it be closed down because it is not doing anyone a service.”

The Facebook page remains live and currently has about 7,600 subscribers.

Some of the videos have attracted tens of thousands of views and hundreds of comments.

Department of Education and Children’s Services spokeswoman Susan Cameron said principals had a range of options to keep their students safe.

“I’ve got every confidence in school principals to actually put their policies in place,” she said.

South Australia Police has asked Facebook to remove the page.
