Australian man mauled by lion on safari

GRAPHIC IMAGES: A Perth man has relived the terrifying moment he was mauled by a lion while on a safari trip in South Africa, just 36 hours after he arrived in the country.

Brendan Smith posted a light-hearted message on his Facebook page with graphic images of the bites, much to his friends' surprise who all reacted with concern and disbelief.

It is believed Mr Smith was on a safari near Johannesburg and was treated at the city's Fourways Life Hospital for his injuries.

He explained how the lion jumped through an open car window and attacked him causing graphic injuries to his legs.

In the Facebook post he said: "I wish I was LION but can now say I have life access to the people who have been mauled by a lion group.

"No later then 36 hours after touching down in Africa I find myself in hospital after a lion jumped through the car window and decided to go to town on my legs.

"Pretty full on but am alive, with insurance coming to the party and an influx of curious Africans wanting to see "the lion man".

"Could have and should have been a lot worse but chicks dig scars so I'll be sweet! I'll post updates on here when they come through."

After his initial message to tell his Facebook friends about the attack Mr Smith was back on social media to say he was out of hospital and 'feeling good'.

He added: "Counting my blessings and now it's the small but satisfying steps of rehab.

"When the swelling and bruises have gone down I'll head back home and be dancing up a storm in no time."
