'I'm sorry I didn't report them': Angry mother speaks out following baby found dead at day care

Following the death of a five-month-old baby yesterday a mother of another child who attended the child care centre for a time in 2014 has lashed out in an interview stating: "I'm sorry I didn't report them to police."

The mother also alleges that she witnessed three children being fed at once out of one bowl.

She has also admitted to only being allowed into the house twice to see the actual room her son was staying in.

"I became suspicious when I started reading the communication book because it became apparent to me that he was only being fed once a day and when I questioned the carers' they confirmed this."

"They had security camera's up so they could see when you were there."

"It was obvious from their body language that they didn't want you to go inside," she stated.

Just before 11.30am, an ambulance was called.

An ambulance spokesman said paramedics spent 35 desperate minutes trying to save the boy. A police officer comforted the new parents after they were told their baby boy had died.

"At this stage we are not dealing with suspicious circumstances of the death," Inspector Steve Flori said.

"There's certainly enough for me to say it warrants our further investigations to find out exactly how these kids are being cared for."

Investigators were shocked to find six children behind locked doors at the facility.

"All seemed healthy some seemed distressed," Inspector Flori said.

Other parents rushed to collect their children as they heard of the tragedy.

Andy Chien only heard from police late this afternoon because the centre didn't have records of who his son - or other children - belonged to.

"I have lots of question marks," Mr Chien said.

"I still can't believe what's going on here."

The Child protection and investigation unit will work with other government organisations to determine exactly how this centre was operating, and if it will be shut down.

"That's a big concern and police just told me not to send my kids here anymore," Mr Chien said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she had been advised of the child's death, but asked for time for the investigations to take place.

"It is very sad to hear reports of a young child that has lost their life and I understand that there will be a police investigation into that matter and there will be an investigation into the daycare centre as well," she said.

"I don't want to jump to conclusions, I think we need that to run its course."

Neighbour Jayden Jones told the ABC it was very quiet at the house every day, despite the fact he had seen seven children there.

"They get dropped off every day - you never hear or see anything and ... it was odd because they're kids, and they're meant to be outside running around, but I never heard a thing or saw anything," he said.

"Never heard yelling - normal kid things you normally hear having fun - I didn't hear any of it.

"Last year when the big storm came, everything got repaired in the street except that house ... they never did anything."
