Mum shocked over baby's $14,000 Tesla purchase on iPad

A mum has gone viral on TikTok after claiming her 10-month-old son purchased a US$10,837 (A$14,244) upgrade for her Tesla.

The mum, from the US, said her baby had been playing with her iPad in the kitchen as she made dinner when he made the big purchase.

“When your 10-month old purchases the full self-service driving package through the Tesla app,” she wrote on the video of her son and the vehicle.

“And you didn’t know until you checked your bank statements. And you find out this is non refundable 48 hours after purchase,” she said, alongside footage of the car driving itself out of their garage and her online receipt.

The TikTok video has gained more than 217,000 views and more than 2000 comments.

Many people joked she had actually purchased the software update, but had blamed it on the baby to get out of trouble.

“Yeah, let’s blame the baby,” one person said.

“My guy just flexing that he spent 10k and ‘didn’t even notice’,” another man wrote.

“But imagine having 10k in the bank and not noticing that,” a third person said.

Some viewers questioned why the mum’s bank didn’t contact her to make sure it was not fraud because of the large sum.

“So my bank usually would text me and asked, ‘did you spend this and so and so, at this location’, and I have to respond,” she explained.

“But the way Tesla works is when you purchase a car, you will have an account with Tesla. So when you need to take your car to the service centre to get anything repaired, they will have it all on file in your account.

“So you have a card, bank account, hooked up to your Tesla app.”

A handful of viewers told her not to worry about it and she should have bought the self-service driving package at the beginning.
