'Can't spell': Menulog's major typo on NSW city's billboard

A number of eagle-eyed drivers have spotted an unfortunate spelling error on a billboard south of Sydney.

Menulog erected a billboard at Kembla Grange recently as part of its advertising campaign which includes renowned rapper Snoop Dogg.

The billboard, reaching out to residents of Wollongong, says they can “get delivery like a g” by using Menulog.

Unfortunately, Menulog spelled the city’s name incorrectly as “Woollongong”.

People on Reddit were quick to pick up on the error.

“What the actual f***?” one user wrote.

“G’s can’t spell it seems,” another wrote.

Someone else suggested Snoop Dogg never “finished school”.

Others said they believed it was a clever marketing ploy to drum up attention by deliberately spelling the city wrong “on purpose”.

“Look at free media they are getting for being ‘stupid’,” one person wrote.

However, Menulog marketing director Simon Cheng insisted to Yahoo News Australia this was not the case.

“While it's great to hear the chatter and speculation this was a clever marketing ploy, we have to say this was a genuine mistake on our part,” Mr Cheng said in a statement.

“As a make good, we're giving all Wollongong residents 10 per cent off all orders until midnight, Sunday November 8, in addition to giving them the extra letter.

“Simply enter the code WOOLLONGONG at the checkout – that one is a clever marketing ploy.”

Mr Cheng added Menulog was looking to update the billboard “ASAP with something that will make locals smile”.
