Boy, 15, who lost his eyesight diagnosed with cancer for third time

A brave Melbourne schoolboy who beat cancer twice has been diagnosed a third time.

Tyler Fishlock, now 15, won hearts across Victoria when he endured a brave fight as a little boy.

In 2006, Tyler, then aged three, lost his eyesight in a surgery to remove tumours attached to his retina. In the years following he lost half his face but in 2014, his family celebrated his remission.

But just last week doctors discovered the disease had returned in the form of bone cancer.

Tyler's devastated mother Georgette wrote on Facebook the teenager had unknowingly been walking around with a broken bone in his leg. Doctors found cancer had caused the bone to break.

“Life felt like it hasn’t taken enough away from my beautiful son,” she wrote.

Ms Fishlock said her boy was devastated by the diagnosis and was loving school.

But he was taking it on the chin.

“He is the most courageous young man in the world, instead of crying he comforted me as I cried and told me that if I feel like crying I need to ask him for a hug,” Ms Fishlock wrote.

Tyler will start an expected 11 weeks of chemotherapy on Thursday in the hopes of saving his leg.
