McDonald's rolls out 'never-before-seen' menu item after 2023 hit

Following the success of Macca's' potato scallop, the fast food giant now has a new offering.

McDonald's is rolling out a never-before-seen item on its menu, offering Aussies an "exciting" sweet take on a popular classic. Following the success of its potato scallops last year, the fast food giant is releasing a fruity version on Wednesday.

"We are excited to be bringing you a new and exciting take on the ultimate snack item this year with the introduction of Pineapple Fritters," Marketing Director Samantha McLeod said.

The potato scallop was hugely popular last year but came at a time of a potato shortage with competitors accusing McDonald's of stealing their share of potatoes. The naming of the menu item also ruffled feathers across the country with varying names for the treat. Those in Queensland, NSW and the ACT call it a scallop however other parts of the country use cake or fritter.

Hot and cold pineapple options for summer

The Pineapple Fritter will be served warm, however, those wanting a cold pineapple treat this summer can opt for the new Pineapple Sundae.

The new items are being introduced as part of a summer release alongside a McCrispy Bacon Deluxe, a Tim Tam Chocolate McFlurry and the returning Aussie Angus Deluxe. The Tim Tam McFlurry's popularity has prompted McDonald's to continue serving the item indefinitely. While Pineapple Fritters are new to Macca's, Red Rooster has long served the treat to Aussies.
