McDonald's announces long-awaited McPlant burger in Australia
McDonald's lovers can soon bite into a meat-free burger with the long-awaited arrival of the McPlant in Australia.
Veggie lovers can dig into the plant-based meal from July 6 when Macca's will roll out the highly requested burger for a limited time only.
The plant-based burger — which cemented a spot on the UK and US Macca's menu some time ago — will be available for trial across 270 Macca’s restaurants, but only in Victoria.
The trial period will run from July 6 to November 1, the fast-food giant announced in a press release on Monday.
The McPlant, co-developed with Beyond Meat, is made with a juicy, plant-based patty made from peas, rice, potatoes, and beetroot.
The patty is served on a sesame seed bun with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise-style sauce, ketchup, mustard and a slice of American cheese.
"Macca’s is always testing new menu items and flavours, as part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and choice," the fast-food giant said in a statement.
"The McPlant gives customers another delicious menu option, alongside their usual favourites."

Until now, the meat-free treat has only been available at McDonald's stores overseas.
"MACCAS AU is holding out on us! I just had the best MCPLANT burger last night in London and holy sh*t Australia needs to get this going already," one wrote on Twitter.
"Feeling very left out back home."
One fan managed to grab one early claiming it was already available via Uber Eats.
"Great work with the McPlant. I liked it a lot and would definitely have it again," he wrote on Twitter last week.
"Considerably meaty and juicy in a unique and meat-like way that is different to the other fast-food level meat replacements that are currently available here. Satisfying. Thank you."
Customers can order the burger from select McDonald's stores and also via the MyMacca’s app and McDelivery, from Monday July 4 until – Tuesday November 1, 2022.
