McDonald's launches new rewards scheme - so what can you get for free?

McDonald’s in the UK has launched a new loyalty scheme where you can earn points and exchange them for free food like Big Macs or McNuggets.

The MyMcDonald's Rewards scheme is available to McDonald's app users in the UK and will be rolled out to 75 restaurants by the end of the month.

The rewards scheme allows loyal customers to collect points each time they buy food from McDonald’s to exchange for some of their favourite menu items.

There are 15 items customers can bag for free once they’ve earned enough points, including fries, McFlurries and God tier items, like McNuggets and Big Macs.

However, the MyMcDonald's Rewards scheme has many Aussies asking the same question: will the scheme be available in Australia?

McDonald’s Australia trialling MyMaccas’s Rewards in South Australia

Yahoo News Australia spoke with a McDonald’s Australia spokesperson who confirmed they are currently trialling a similar scheme, MyMacca’s Rewards, across all restaurants in South Australia.

“MyMacca’s Rewards is the first global loyalty program for McDonald’s Australia,” said the spokesperson.

Customers will earn 100 points for every $1 they spend on 14 eligible food and drink purchases via the MyMacca’s app, with different tiers giving you access to bigger and better menu items.

“Customers can start to redeem their rewards on eligible menu items once they earn 2,500 points or more,” they added.

With 2,500 points, customers can receive a McCafe beverage, hamburger, small soft drink, hot apple pie and apple slices for free, while 5,000 points will earn customers a bacon and egg McMuffin, cheeseburger, large fries or crispy snack wrap.

For every 7,500 points earned, customers can redeem a Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, McChicken, Filet-O-Fish or Classic Chicken Salad.

“We look forward to completing the trial and introducing MyMacca’s Rewards nationwide in the future.”

How does MyMaccas’s Rewards scheme work?

The MyMacca’s Rewards loyalty program can be used by South Australian customers through the free MyMacca's app, which is downloadable via Google Play or the App Store.

Maccas customers in South Australia can opt into MyMacca’s Rewards scheme and then order and pay through the MyMacca’s app to automatically bank their points.

Once customers have accumulated enough points, they can use the app to cash them in to get free food the next time they visit or order from McDonald’s.

When ordering through the McDonald's app, select your reward from the rewards menu tab and add to your order, where the money will be automatically deducted.

However, customers also have the option to exchange their points to make a donation to charity instead.
