One Australian state will trial a new McDonald's chicken range, which may pave the way for other states to introduce the menu item.
McDonald's confirmed on Wednesday Southern Style Chicken would be trialled at participating South Australian restaurants.
The new Southern Style Chicken features RSPCA approved drumsticks, thighs and wings with a "signature coating".
The trial will run from May 5 until July 27 and feedback from customers will determine whether other states sell the Southern Style Chicken.
“As a customer-led business, we look forward to receiving feedback on the new items and continuing to cater to our customer’s needs and wants," McDonald’s Marketing Manager Tim Kenward said in a statement to Yahoo News Australia.
Why Southern Style Chicken is trialled in South Australia
Mr Kenward also explained why South Australians would be the first to get the chicken.
"Our South Australian customers continue to be extremely supportive of our new products and menu innovations, which is why they will be among the first to get their hands on the new chicken items," he said.
Earlier this year, McDonald's Australia confirmed to Yahoo News Australia there were ways customers could order secret menu items.
"Customers can customise their orders as they see fit," a McDonald's Australia spokesperson said at the time.
