Man's unbelievable excuse for allegedly lighting own truck on fire

A man has offered police a bizarre excuse after he was nabbed allegedly torching his own car.

Residents in Dorcas, in the US state of Florida, reported hearing a loud explosion on December 20 and police found a car “fully engulfed”.

They spoke with Kevin Robert Murphy, 28, who owns the car, and police said he told them he lit the car on fire himself with a tin of gasoline.

“He went on to say he had set the fire ‘to give us something to do’,” police said.

“Upon Murphy being arrested methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found in his pocket.

“No one was injured by the fire. However, an adjacent vehicle and building suffered minor damage.”

Murphy has been charged with arson, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
