Female guard in jailhouse affair with cop killer accused of smuggling contraband
The female prison guard who had a jailhouse affair with a notorious Sydney police killer is now accused of smuggling in contraband – but an allegation she is also pregnant with his child has been denied.
Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin was only told on Friday about an affair between the guard and Sione Penisini, the man who killed Senior Constable Glenn McEnallay in 2002.
Commissioner Severin is supposed to be in charge of all NSW prisons, but he admitted the situation at Kempsey jail is unacceptable.
“We cannot tolerate that type of behaviour,” he told 7 News.
Allegations the married mother fell pregnant to Penisini have been denied, but she is accused of smuggling in phones and drugs, and had been under surveillance.
Sydney 2GB radio broadcaster Ray Hadley, who broke the story, said: “It’s been going on for 18 months, but the investigation only started three weeks ago.”
He called for Commissioner Severin to be sacked, with Corrections Minister David Elliott put on notice.

Shadow Corrections Minister Guy Zangari agreed, saying: “Clearly this is a minister that is incompetent.”
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian however, said she has faith Minister Elliott is handling the situation.
“When the rules are broken, you’re always concerned,” she said. “But I know the Minister’s on top of it and is dealing with the matter.”
Minister Elliott will visit Kempsey on Monday with the Commissioner, demanding to know how this could happen again.
In 2015, one-punch killer Kieran Loveridge also had an affair there, with a different guard.
“It’s not the procedure. It is the officer who breaches the procedure who is entirely at fault here,” Commissioner Severin said.
The Minister has called Glenn McEnallay’s mother to apologise, after she spoke about her anger on 7 News Monday night. He assured the woman she will be kept informed at every stage of the investigation.
