After a lifetime of renting, a Clarkson family of eight can now afford a home of their own after winning Saturday Lotto’s $20 million Superdraw.
The lucky family, who hail from Clarkson, an outer northern suburb of Perth, won one of six division one prizes – taking home $3.3 million.
Speaking with officials from Lotterywest, the couple in their fifties said the life-changing news has made the dream of buying their own home a reality.
“There’s a house we have been looking at, we would park outside and say one day we will live in this house,” said the winning couple.
“We have a large family so our first thought was our kids, we have always lived in nice rentals, but it was never our own,” added the lucky winners.
The WA couple bought their winning ticket from Newsxpress Ocean Keys in Clarkson.
Lotterywest on the lookout for Cloverdale division one winner
“Lotterywest is still on the lookout for another Division One winner from Saturday’s draw, which was sold at Here's Luck Lottery Centre in Cloverdale."
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the couple was the first of three local division one winners from the weekend to come forward to claim their prize.
“Lotterywest is still on the lookout for another division one winner from Saturday’s draw, which was sold at Here's Luck Lottery Centre in Cloverdale,” said Mr Mooney.
He added: “There’s also the owner of a division one Set for Life ticket sold from Nextra Ellenbrook News that we would love to meet as well.”
“This prize is worth $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.”
Anyone who purchased their tickets from these venues is being urged to check them right away, as they could be sitting on a multi-million dollar ticket.
Meanwhile, WA residents have plenty of chances to take home a win this week, with tonight’s $20 million OZ Lotto jackpot and Thursday’s $60 million Powerball draw.
Tickets are available to purchase until 6pm on the draw day from Lotterywest, either in-store, online or via the app.
Sydney neighbours 'going halves' in $3.3m Lotto win
The old adage goes: “love thy neighbour” and these Sydney neighbours have taken this saying literally by sharing their lottery win.
The two western Sydney friends, who have been buying lottery tickets together for two years, made a pact that they would split the winnings if either of them won.
The friends couldn't believe their luck when they checked their ticket on Saturday night and discovered they had won $3,333,333.34 between them – more than $1.6 million each.
The winners admitted they haven’t slept since learning the life-changing news, as they are both “so excited”.
“We both had knots in our stomachs when we checked the ticket on Saturday night,” they added.
“It’s incomprehensible! It’s life-changing in so many ways," he said.
One of the winning men told lottery officials he's going halves with his neighbour, adding they've spent a lot of time discussing what they'd do if they won.
“We’re going to buy a new house!” he declared.
“We won’t have a mortgage, and I will be able to retire a lot earlier," they continued. “It will be incredible to know that my salary will not be going to a mortgage."
“I am so happy with my life and what I have, but this will just make things so much easier and it will be the same for my neighbour as well!”
The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 4199 on October 16 were 27, 17, 2, 26, 7 and 38, while the supplementary numbers were 19 and 1.
Across Australia, there were six division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4199 — two from Victoria and WA, and one each from NSW and Queensland.
