Aussie scoops $730k with lottery ticket received as birthday present
The winner couldn't believe he had won util he saw the huge sum in his account.
A South Australian plans to shower his mum with love and affection after she gifted him a winning lottery ticket worth over $730,000 for his birthday last week.
The resident of Whyalla Norrie — situated on the state's Eyre Peninsula on the south coast — held one of seven division one winning entries in Saturday's X lotto, with the lottery ticket purchased from a local newsagent. Thanks to draw 4405, the mother-son duo will now be celebrating his birthday in much bigger style than anticipated.
“I’m going to help my mum and spoil her rotten – she’s my heartbeat, she’s everything to me," the winner said. “I wouldn’t have had a great birthday if it wasn’t for her, so I look forward to giving back to her."
Winner held off telling his mum to prevent false hope
The winning entry was not registered, meaning The Lott officials had no way of contacting the ticketholder and instead had to wait until he came forward to claim his prize.
“Honestly, I’ve been holding off getting excited until the money is in my account,” he admitted. “I rang her [mum] after calling The Lott and she didn’t believe me at all ... Once she read out all the winning numbers that were on my ticket, it hit her that I’d won $730,000!"
