Retired Aussie's adorable first purchase after $100k Lucky Lotteries win

The Sydney man has one thing on his mind following the huge win.

A Sydney retiree has revealed he'll finally be able to upgrade his dated flip phone after winning over $100,000 in last week's Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw.

The pensioner, a resident of Kirribilli on the city's Lower North Shore, won first prize of the $100,000 draw, which was announced last Tuesday, October 3, but only found out on Friday morning when officials finally were able to get a hold of him.

The lucky winner also bagged an extra $2000 worth of "consolation prizes", boosting the total amount he's set to pocket to $102,000.

'Extraordinary' lotto win 'going to help more than you know'

"Oh my!" the man said in response to the win. "This is extraordinary. I'll be able to buy a new phone! One of those fancy touchscreen ones."

The retiree continued that he "had been using this same one for years" which only cost $15 at the time of purchase, "so an upgrade will be fantastic".

"It's remarkable to see the draw offers in the newsagency but the fact I've won them is something else," he said. "It'll make a nice summer and I'll be eating well. This is going to help more than you know."

His winning entry of five consecutive numbers was purchased at Miller Street Oval News agency, 248 Miller Street, in North Sydney, Lotto officials said. The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $8.44 million for draw 1628, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $5.31 million for draw 10801.
