Aussie newsagent hailed as 'Mr Lucky' after 62nd division one Lotto win

The odds of winning a Lotto division one prize are over eight million to one, yet this newsagent has sold the winning ticket 62 times.

An Aussie dad who scooped $1.7 million in Saturday's TattsLotto has become the 62nd person to buy a division one winning Lotto ticket from his local newsagent.

The resident of Melton — a suburb situated on the outskirts of Melbourne — thought he was "living in a dream" as he continued the area's winning streak with the same numbers he's played for the last 35 years.

“I have had them for so long, I’ve forgotten what they even mean!" he said.

“This is incredible. I’ll be able to pay off my daughter's house and invest the rest... This is the best day of my life.”

The man held one of three division one winning entries across the country but was initially unaware of his new fortune as his winning entry was unregistered — meaning lottery officials had no way of contacting him until he came forward. Thanks to Saturday's draw 4401, he is now a millionaire.

Owner of newsagent dubbed 'Mr Lucky' by locals

The winning ticket was purchased at Melton Lotto & TSG and marks the 62nd time a division one winning lottery ticket has been sold at the newsagents. After operating for 20 years, the business now averages over three top division wins per year.

“It’s crazy – I’m stoked! I can’t believe we’ve sold yet another division one winning entry," owner Phong Thai said.

“Many of my customers call me ‘Mr Lucky’ because of how many division one winning entries our outlet has sold ... I’m sure many customers will feel inspired with hopes they’re the next division one winner to take home a million-dollar prize."

Eight of the newsagent's division one winning entries have been sold in the last three years. Melton's lottery winning streak comes after a NSW town "in the middle of nowhere' celebrated a second major lottery win in less than a month.

The winning numbers in Saturday's TattsLotto draw were 13, 16, 21, 29, 45 and 4, while the supplementary numbers were 11 and 6. Another Victorian held a division one lottery entry with the third winner residing in NSW.
